Joining a church is more than just becoming a number! It's becoming a partner in ministry!

In the beginning of the Church, joining the church meant that a person became a part of the family of God. They not only were given the opportunity to fellowship with other believers, but they were given a part to play in the mission and ministry God calls all of his children to.

At FUMC Odem, we believe that membership is not just about being put on the congregational rolls, but that it is becoming part of the mission we are called to here in Odem, TX.

When you join our local congregation, you will be asked a series of questions.

Reception into the United Methodist Church

As members of Christ's universal Church, will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church, and do all in your power to strengthen her ministries?

We affirm that all believers in Christ are members of the universal Church, or the Church that God found through Jesus Christ, establishing the community of all believers from generation to generation. The United Methodist Church is a part of that universal church. When a person joins our congregation, they are affirming the mission and ministry of the United Methodist Church in the local community, and pledge before God to uphold that affirmation and calling.

Reception into the local congregation

As members of this congregation, First UMC Odem, will you faithfully participate in her mnistries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?

We also affirm that while the UMC as a whole is a part of the universal church, our local congregation of believers is a part of the connection of the UMC and the universal church. So, when a person joins our congregation, they are affirming their calling to this community and will do so with their prayers, their attendance, their offering (money/tithe), their service (time), and story of how God has worked and is working in their lives.

Membership is not something we take lightly. Not because it looks good on paper, or makes us feel good about ourselves, but because we believe that God has a mission for us to fulfill in Odem; to make more disciples for Christ. We desire partners in ministry to work along side us as we work along side Christ in transforming the world for his glory.
